PvE and PvP....

N/RT sucks in PvP, and is quite overrated in PvE also, just run tease prot and a leech sig + power drain + WoH

Id say monks and warriors are the best, they are ran by almost any "balanced" team (non gimmick way)

Broken meta fluke crap that makes people feel 1337 for looking it up on wiki doesn't count. I was talking about inherent abilities. The stuff that professions are supposed to do. You can't base the value of an intire profession on one gimmicky build.

No class is better than others..
It's all about the player.

I love my warrior, but that doesn't make Warrior the best class >.<
All classes have uniqe advantages and disadvantages.

I'm so happy that monks were removed in GW2!

What's with those OP's that want to start a discussion but don't chime in themselves? It's not decent.

No N/Rt or N/Mo can live up to the ER builds eles got now.

As best allround class I vote Monk! Monking =/= Healing.

I say in pve Paragon is maybe the best. Actually with 4 paras u can do a lot of stuff without abusing from other class skills, which other classes must do.

In pvp: every class is good. If u count only primary profession skills i say Mesmer. Can really be pain in the axx..

@Everyone else: Necros aren't the best healers...stop with this shit pls. They just have many energy with soul reaping and actually they use rit or monk skills. They are really good at both pve and pvp. They make the difference in some case. But they are weak. They need other class skills to survive.

"Best Overall Class" is pretty open ended and doesn't really explain much other than people's opinions.

I'll say Monk is the most versatile in that it can heal, do damage, go well in a group, or solo. Other classes can or could do some of these but not all consistantly throughout the years of GW.

Best by any other definition and I may change my answer.

i thought this topic would be closed straight away saying 'use the search dickhead'

but am pleasantly surprised to see it still open. I was actually going to say, with all the new players running in recently, it would be nice to see what they think of this game compared to the oldies. and see if they assess the game in the same way.

as far as best prof in the game, for pve and pvp... perhaps the ele, maybe not the biggest damage (which you'd think is what they are there for), but their utility is second to none

Before you asked that question you should have considered the following.

If one class was better than all the others all you would need to do was stand in a town and look.

Monks someone said yep I agree whenever I enter Lions arch all I can see are Monks, or was it Necro's or Elementalists.

Oh wait a minute no I don't, nor any other class vastly outnumbering all the others.

Seems opinion is divided on the subject and any answer you get is almost bound to disappoint.

What you should be asking yourself is what class do I like playing.
If you cannot decide that then just decide warrior type or spell caster type because your secondary class will provide enough customisation to suit your needs.

Monks, Warriors and Rangers have seen use pretty much non-stop since release.

Since playing in PvE is apparently like playing godmode and steamrolling everything, like everyone here seems to think, I'm going to say every class is the best class in the game.

But to inject my opinion, I love these three classes in the exact order:

1. Warrior: Tank. Take and Leave tons of damage, survive. Physical damage reduction also.
2. Mesmer: Steamroll people in PvP and destroy PvE monsters without YOU actually damaging them yourself -- let anti-whatever skills like Backfire and Empathy take charge and do what they do best. Also interrupt people from casting their beneficial buffs.
3. Necromancer: Raise some undead creatures to fight for you, death magic also has straight up damage spells, there are also curses which is a great line.

PVE/pvp: Mesmers, they rape harder through an HM area that a Necro will raise his eyebrowes. I found out a build that give them insane healing + protection as well (a combination of bonds, signets and Symbolic Celerity.)

pvp/pve; i would say mesmers again, but lets change that to monk....

With regard to PvE Eles have had a pretty consistent role first as Nukers, soloing with SF and Sliver Armor, tanking with Obs Flesh in DoA and now in UW as E/Mos. So that's damage dealer, tank, solo and healer covered.

I think rits have more utility...

Mesmers: shutdown in PvP is king , since GW beta to now, Mesmers have been the orchestrators of the turning points in PvP (see blackout, powerblock, psychic instability, diversion, Migraine, Soothing Images/Sympathetic Visage... the only way to drain all adrenaline besides Disarm)
--> Warriors in PvP are essential as are monks. However, mesmers are often the ones that change the battle.

Necros: In PVE, minion bombing is imba. Before they set the cap to 10 minions you had necros with 50+ fiends owning FoW. N/Rts can outdo ritualists based on energy for skill spam. SS is like searing heat but without fleeing. MoP is like searing heat without fleeing.

Runner up:
Eles: strongest snare + blinds in PvP , suck in PVE Hard mode (come on, 50 damage from a 137 rodgort's invocation before cracked armor?)
Ritualists: Since the spirit buff... almost there with necros. SoS is the number one OP(overpowered) skill atm. Restoration has been much improved over its original iteration, allowing them to heal as effectively as monks without HB or UA. Soul twisting with spirits allows for party-wide defense.

Monks, rangers, warriors, dervishes, assassins, paragons simply aren't as flexible.
